BY KIM DLUGOLENSKI, SENIOR DAY LEAGUES VICE PRESIDENT
The Spring Senior Day Leagues kicked off their season on March 12 for the women and March 13 for the men with perfect tennis weather. The spring registration statistics reflect a 9-percent increase in teams for the men and a 6-percent increase for the women. There also was a 10.8-percent increase in players for the men and a 7.5-percent increase for the women.
Senior Day is a fun ALTA league that plays in the spring and fall. The women play at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, and the men play at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays. ALTA members may join a Senior Day team any time during the year of their 55th birthday. This league only plays three lines of doubles for each match. Since there are only three lines, the match is usually over by 1 p.m., and then the rest of the day is open for whatever plans you may have.
As the Senior Day Leagues continue to grow by adding more teams and players, that should mean less travel for the matches. You get to play within your own age group and meet new friends. The matches are fun and competitive, but watch out for that lob, slice, or kick.
Roster registration is closing soon, as you only have until July 5 to submit a team roster. So, spread the word and help grow our Senior Day Leagues. The only requirement is to be 55 years young. Introduce your friends approaching 55 years old to your team. Share with them what it really means to enjoy more than the sport of tennis. ALTA … Where Atlanta Comes to Play.
