The USTA has honored two Georgia facilities as part of this year’s USTA outstanding facility awards. The James Creek Tennis Center and Jekyll Island Tennis Center were recognized for offering top-notch facilities and services for players at all levels.

Facilities are judged on a number of criteria, including the quality of each court area and surface, quality of the court enclosure and lighting, overall layout and adaptation to site, accessories and amenities, and evidence of good and green maintenance. The USTA also evaluates tennis programs, looking for exceptional youth tennis programming and other ways the facilities contribute to the sport.

“When UTA took over James Creek, that was our first venture into the private club sector. This has always been a comprehensive program [for us], but we’ve taken it to another level in the last couple of years,” said Stewart Russell, partner, Universal Tennis Academy. “James Creek Tennis Center is a full-service, state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor tennis facility offering tennis programs for all levels of both adults and children. It’s nice to see that all that hard work is being rewarded.”

“The Jekyll Island Authority is thrilled and excited to win the USTA 2018 outstanding facility award. We have put great effort into rebuilding the Jekyll Island Tennis Center and its programming in the wake of hurricanes Matthew and Irma,” said Stewart Atkins, director of tennis operations. USTA will present the awards in September at its semiannual meeting in New York.
